Ghafoor’s father was killed in the 2005 earthquake, leaving it almost impossible for Ghafoor to pursue his ambition of becoming a pilot. He continues to make excellent progress in school and with his continued dedication and a hard work the goal should be achievable.
Tameer-e-Jannat Science School, Ratwal, Fateh Jang
In October 2005, an earthquake with record 7.6 magnitude, hit the Himalayan region of Northern Pakistan, and the Kashmir region was hit the hardest. Hundreds of causalities were reported in North Muzzafarabad, Kashmir and Hazara division. It is estimated that 80,000 lives were lost, leaving another 3,500,000 people homeless. Many students were at school the moment the earthquake struck, which destroyed an estimated 8000 schools, many young lives were lost when students were buried under the rubble. Tameer-e-Jannat Science School was established for rehabilitating those affected by the quake, as many were orphaned. At present there are 183 residential students enrolled at Tameer-e-Jannat Science School.
