Raja Kopinath is an only child and his father earns just US$480 per year. There is no money to meet the expenses of sending their son to University. Raja wishes to study Siddah Medicine, which combines eastern and western methods of healing and is widely practiced in Sri Lanka. He hopes to be able to support his parents in their old age and help them rebuild their family home that was destroyed in the tsunami. They currently live with relatives.
I am happy to report that all our scholars in Sri Lanka are alive and well despite the terrible violence in that country. For several months we lost touch with one of our female students who is studying law at Jaffna - her parents had gone to see if she was safe and were there when the war intensified and they too dissappeared. Our Sri lanka office was very worried for their safety, however, eventually they were able to make contact again. All the universities are open and classes are continuing.

In August this year, I have just entered University and I am happy because I am following my classes well. The good things in university are friends that I am making and the subjects which are very interesting. In the future, I would like to become an Ayurvedic Doctor because I study in the faculty of ayurvedic medicine and I will be very prepared for the job.
I am living in the University hostel of Sri Lanka and I am enjoying my life very much now. In the morning, I have breakfast at the Canteen of the university and the rest of the meals I eat in different places.
My family lives in Veeramunai. I visit my home weekly in a month and my family is very poor so without the scholarship I would not be able to study, so thank you very much!
Thank you!
