After his parents past away, Amos has lived with his grandmother, one brother, and one sister. Amos' favourite food is fish, which is caught fresh from Lake Victoria. Amos loves to learn and his favourite subject at school is English. When Amos grows up he would like to become a pilot. In his free time he loves to play soccer with his friends and says that he is most happy when he plays. Like many living so close to Lake Victoria, Amos has been affected by malaria which he does have access to medication for. This scholarship will allow Amos to mee the costs of continuing his education at Humwend Secondary.
About the School
Humwend Secondary School is a community-run school situated in Ukwala. Here, 57 per cent of the population lives below the poverty line, and 24 per cent lives with the highly stigmatized human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). Fifty students attend the school, 95 per cent of which are partial or complete orphans.
The cost of operating Humwend Secondary School for an entire year is approximately $21,000 USD. Unlike primary education in Kenya, the cost of tuition in secondary school is significantly higher and makes up the majority of school costs.
