Tharani has completed 3 years successfully and has one more year to finish her law degree. Her family home was completely destroyed by the tsunami and they lost everything. She has 2 younger sisters. Her father is a night watchman. Her family is living with relatives in a single room dwelling in great poverty. She has overcome great difficulties to finish high school and be selected for Law School. Once she is finished, she will be able to assist her family to educate her younger sisters and to help her family finally move into a home of their own again.
Tharani requires funding to complete her last year of Law studies.
We are happy to report that all our scholars in Sri Lanka are alive and well despite the terrible violence in that country. For several months we lost touch with one of our female students who is studying law at Jaffna - her parents had gone to see if she was safe and were there when the war intensified and they too dissappeared. Our Sri lanka office was very worried for their safety, however, eventually they were able to make contact again. All the universities are open and classes are continuing.

Tharani has completed her third year of Law in good standing, and is therefore eligible for a new scholarship that will cover her fourth year of University!
It is important to note that we have learned that Law Studies in Sri Lanka are actually 4 years long, as opposed to 3 years as initially thought. Therefore, since Tharani had started her studies in 2006, her expected graduation date is in 2010 and she still has 1 more year to complete her degree.

I am in my final year of studies and I am making good progress in my studying. I like all of the subjects very much, but Logic is my favorite subject. In the future, I would like to become a Lawyer as I like this profession very much.
I am living in the University hostel Of Jaffna and I cook and eat together with friends. The prices for the goods are higher here than in the other parts of Sri Lanka because this is a war prevailing area. We have to study in the midst of bombing and shelling, but we still try hard and pass our classes with good grades.
I visit my home once a year because it is really far and I have to travel by plane or ship. I have 2 sisters and they are also lucky to be able to study. My mother is a house wife and my father is a Watcher and my whole family is living in Kalmunai.
Thank you!
