Sujeev is studying medicine at the University of Jaffna in Sri Lanka. He started in September 2006 and has successfully completed three years of his studies. Medicine studies are 5 years long in Sri Lanka, so Sujeev has 2 more years to complete his degree.
Sujeev writes “ I am the eldest in my family of five. My brother and sister are school going children. We were badly affected by tsunami disaster. Our house was very badly affected ….My father is the only bread winner and the money earned is inadequate to run the family, and it puts me in a turmoil to continue my higher education with its expense…."
Sujeev has his tuition paid by the government but needs help to cover the extra costs of transportation, accomodation, books, supplies and food for this year of medical school. After completing his degree he will be able to support his parents and younger siblings and bring his family out of poverty.
Sujeev has completed his third year of Medical School in good standing, and is therefore eligible for a new scholarship that will cover his fourth year of University!

I am in my third year and I am doing well in my studying. After graduation, I would like to become a good Doctor in our area, and I want to be able to offer best help to people in my area. I would like to specialize in pediatric medicine because I like children very much and like to help them. I also like Pathology subject very much.
Right now, I am living in the hostel and I am eating in the Canteen in the morning and I cook other meals together with my friends. I am good friends with senior students and we are close as brothers. I do miss my real family too and I come home once a month.
Unfortunately, sometimes we are unable to concentrate at school as the war still continues in our area.
