Sridevi is the oldest of five children, three girls and two boys. Her family home was destroyed in the 2004 tsunami and her family lives in a single room in one of the transitional camps. Her father is ill and cannot work and the family face extreme poverty. Sending a daughter to university is far beyond their means.
Sridevi’s school principle writes “she is a hard-working, obedient and diligent person. She was very keen at studies as well as sporting activities. She has an exemplary moral character and good behavior.”
Sridevi was awarded a scholarship of and has completed her first year at Eastern University, where she has passed all her classes with excellent grades. She has also completed her second year in good standing and she is starting her third year of university.
I am happy to report that all our scholars in Sri Lanka are alive and well despite the terrible violence in that country. For several months we lost touch with one of our female students who is studying law at Jaffna - her parents had gone to see if she was safe and were there when the war intensified and they too dissappeared. Our Sri lanka office was very worried for their safety, however, eventually they were able to make contact again. All the universities are open and classes are continuing.

Hello
I am now completing the second year. I am passing all my classes and I would like to become a Teacher and I would like to improve my knowledge by teaching.
I am living at the University and I really enjoy my University life with my friends. My Seniors are treating me well and I take breakfast at the University and eat my other meals outside.
I miss my family. I have 4 siblings, one sister and one brother also studying. Our monthly income is not enough to continue our Higher studies. They are living in Chenaikudiruppu. Thank those that help me with my studies.
