Nadarajah went to school in Carmel Fatima College in Kalmunai and was awarded a place to study for the National Diploma in Technology Course. After this he would like to become a civil engineer.
His family lost their home and business during the tsunami and Nadarajah is the only surviving child. Their annual income is approx 2500 ($250). University is free in Sri Lanka but the family cannot afford the extra expenses for books, transport and accommodation. Nadarajah was awarded a scholarship that allowed him to complete his first year. He completed both his first and second year successfully and he is starting his third year of university.
I am happy to report that all our scholars in Sri Lanka are alive and well despite the terrible violence in that country. For several months we lost touch with one of our female students who is studying law at Jaffna - her parents had gone to see if she was safe and were there when the war intensified and they too dissappeared. Our Sri lanka office was very worried for their safety, however, eventually they were able to make contact again. All the universities are open and classes are continuing.

Nadarajah completed his second year of university in good standing, and is therefore eligible for a new scholarship that will cover his third year of University!

Hello,
I am in my second university year and I finished first year with very top performance.
After graduation, I would I like to become a Civil Engineer and I would like to do good planning in Constructions Engineering field.
During University classes, I'm living in a rental house and I pay monthly 3500 Rupees for rent. I get my breakfast from the canteen and normally I take my lunch in Hotels. Money is not enough for my studying and I thanked very much for selecting me to be funded.
My family at home has five members. I have 2 sisters and my whole family lives in Pandiruppu. I visit my family once a month and they are very happy I am studying at University.
