HUGGS stands for HELPING UNDERPRIVILEGED GIRLS AND GUYS STUDY. Our story is an example of the difference one person can make - how one dream can grow and make a difference in the world, one person at a time.
Six years ago, Lisa Heel traveled from Canada to India, and met a girl who dreamed of becoming a nurse, but her family was too poor. Lisa came home determined to help Viveka realize her dream - and that is how HUGGS was born.
Today, 6 years later, Viveka is our first college graduate, thrilled that her dream has finally come true.
Our Mission Statement: To provide underprivileged students in India with the opportunity to complete their education, enabling them to contribute more effectively to their families and communities.
Our Values: HUGGS does not discriminate on the basis of gender, race, culture, or creed. HUGGS values the life of each student and respects their unique personalities. HUGGS recognizes education as empowerment for life.
HUGGS, a registered Canadian charity since 2003, is funded through voluntary donations from individuals, foundations, corporations, and associations, and also through various fundraising events.
